Summary:

Prepares surfaces for finishing and assists "Painters" in setting up the job. Prepares for advancement by learning skills of painting trade and acquiring tools of the trade.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (other duties may be assigned and may vary depending on city or location)

Receives instructions from supervisor. Spreads drop cloths over floors and room furnishings, and cover surfaces with masking tape and paper to protect surfaces during painting. Applies masking to articles to protect from over spray Removes fixtures such as pictures and electric switch covers from walls prior to painting, fills nail holes, cracks, and joints with calk, putty, plaster, or other filler. Sands surfaces smooth and removes old paint Cleans and prepares surfaces for painting Erects scaffolding or sets up ladders to perform tasks above ground level Loads and moves materials to work area Performs "cut in painting" as dictated by Job Forman.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Previous experience as a "Painters Helper" or equal experience required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Have the ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Have the ability to write simple correspondence. Have the ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Have to ability to add and subtract four digit numbers, to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Have the ability to perform these operations using unites of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

REASONING ABILITY:

Have the ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Have the ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, VEHICLES:

Driver License, reliable transportation to and from the work place.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Have the ability to adapt and learn new responsibilities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions and is regularly exposed to fumes and airborne particles. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places. The employee is occasionally exposed to we and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
