Summary:
Prepares surfaces for finishing and assists "Painters" in the following: Applying coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect interior or exterior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures of buildings and other structures by performing the following duties. Prepares for advancement by learning skills of painting trade and acquiring tools of the trade.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (other duties may be assigned and may vary depending on city or location).
Receives instructions from supervisor regarding painting. All duties as outlined in "Prep-Man" description as needed and the following: Examines work piece for scale, cracks, shade variances, or unpainted areas. Mixes paints with thinner or water solution according to formula. Selects premixed paints, or mixes required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint that matches specified colors. Paints surfaces with brushes or paint rollers. Assists Spray Painter to spray paint surfaces of materials or products. Installs specified nozzles in spray guns. Replaces screens and filters. Measures thickness and viscosity of paint applies to objects.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Previous experience as a "Painters Helper" or equal experience required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Have the ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Have the ability to write simple correspondence. Have the ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Have to ability to add and subtract four digit numbers, to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Have the ability to perform these operations using unites of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY:
Have the ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Have the ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, VEHICLES:
Driver License, registered vehicle with insurance for transportation to and from jobs.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Have the ability to adapt and learn new responsibilities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions and is regularly exposed to fumes and airborne particles. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places. The employee is occasionally exposed to we and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
